The Process |

The
process of the unique art of hand carving has several stages. First, the
pieces of mahogany, selected of the finest quality, are kilned dried to
an 8% -10% moisture level to guarantee that our products will resist
different climate changes such as dryness levels. The wood is then taken
to the carpentry area where the pieces of lumber are put together to
form the desired shape of the item that is going to be produced. The
assembly of items like doors, chests , screens and tables can take from
three days up to two weeks.
All other materials
used in the making of our products such as glue, are imported to make
sure that our products fit international customer's standards. Once the pieces are
put together they are taken to the carving area which is considered the
most interesting part of our workshop. Here we can see the skill and
craftsmanship of young artists that have real innative art . The
majority of the designs are drawn by the carvers themselves, no specific
design is imposed unless it is a custom order. This is one of the major
reasons why all the pieces that we make are unique, because the idea
that is carved in that specific piece belongs only to the creativity of
the artist on that particular day. After the sketch is done on the wood
the patient work begins. To continue the heritage and tradition of this
art and our motto of 100 % handmade, in this area there is absolutely no
modern equipment. The time of elaboration depends on the item that is
been carved. A door can be carved in only one week, meanwhile a 4-piece
screen will need three. The accuracy of the work can only be appreciated
in the final product, were the customer can see that these one-of-a-kind
items are true masterpieces. Once the item has
been carved and properly sanded, it is taken into the painting room were
the exclusive art of hand painting begins. Again, every piece that is
painted in here is also up to the choice that the painter desires, thus
making our products more exclusive. We accept any custom order or
specific coloring on these handcrafts.Only first quality stains and
finishes are applied to the diversity of products that IMAPRO produces. |
